Viña Encierra is born from a passion for wine and a deep respect for the land. Located in Peralillo, in the heart of the Colchagua Valley, our boutique winery crafts wines that faithfully express the unique terroir of this privileged corner of Chile.

Just 200 km from Santiago and 40 km from the Pacific Ocean, the Mediterranean climate and volcanic-origin soils create exceptional conditions for producing wines of remarkable character and expression. La Roca Madre — an ancient geological formation — lies at the heart of our identity.

Our Journey

Milestones of Viña Encierra

1887

Beginnings

Miguel Echenique Tagle and his son Gabriel planted the first vinifera varieties brought from France to the Colchagua region.

1947

Viña Cañetenes de Puquillay

Fernando Echenique Zegers, founder of Viña Cañetenes de Puquillay, took the family’s winemaking tradition a step further. Fernando invested in cutting-edge technology and built a cellar to produce and store the must from the new plantings.

1970

Viña Los Vascos

The Eyzaguirre Echenique family took over Fernando’s estate and introduced Viña Los Vascos. Jorge Eyzaguirre Correa and his wife María Ignacia Echenique, the vineyard’s new owners, believed that the future of the Chilean wine industry lay in exports, and launched an aggressive international sales effort, actively taking part in international markets and tasting fairs.

1988

Partnership with Les Domaines Barons

The Eyzaguirre Echenique family established a joint venture with the renowned French winemaking house Les Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite).

2000

Encierra

Under the name Encierra, a new winemaking project was born, writing a new chapter in the history of this family of winemakers. A legacy reinvented without losing sight of its roots.

2003

The First Vineyards

The first vines were planted in the soils of Peralillo. The dream of creating a boutique winery began to take shape in the Colchagua Valley.

2008

First Porel Vintage

Porel Premium Estate Blend, the winery’s signature wine, was born. Its inaugural vintage would define Encierra’s style and philosophy for years to come.

2015

Opening to Wine Tourism

Encierra opened its doors to the world with its first wine tours. The winery and family chapel became the heart of the experience.

2020

Tim Atkin — 93 Points

The 2020 Porel received 93 points from renowned wine critic Tim Atkin, further establishing Encierra as one of Colchagua’s most distinguished boutique wineries.

2023

Tim Atkin — 96 Points

The 2023 Carménère received 96 points—the highest score in the winery’s history. A milestone that confirms the exceptional quality of our terroir.
