Our History
There are many elements required to produce a high-quality wine, but undoubtedly one of the most important factors is the people behind it.
ENCIERRA belongs to the Eyzaguirre Echenique family, longtime vine growers in the Colchagua Valley. María Ignacia Echenique, María Ignacia Eyzaguirre E, and Juan Carlos Eyzaguirre E, aim to position ENCIERRA wines as one of the great wines of Chile, giving life to a different oenological project with limited production.
To achieve this, the Executive Management of the company has been entrusted to María Ignacia Eyzaguirre, Agronomist-oenologist from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, and Andrés Domínguez E., Commercial Engineer, responsible or the financial and commercial area of the vineyard.
ENCIERRA benefits from oenological advice from Didier Debono, Agronomist- oenologist from the University of Bordeaux.

History
Fernando Echenique Zegers, founder of Viña Cañetenes de Puquillay, took the family tradition of winemaking a step further. Fernando invested in cutting-edge technology and built a winery to produce and store the musts from the new plantations.
The Eyzaguirre Echenique family took control of Fernando’s estate and introduced Viña Los Vascos. Jorge Eyzaguirre Correa and his wife María Ignacia Echenique, the new owners of the vineyard, believed that the future of the Chilean wine industry lay in exports and initiated aggressive commercial efforts internationally by actively participating in international markets and tasting fairs.
The Eyzaguirre Echenique family established a joint venture with the renowned French wine company Les Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite).
The family sold its stake in Viña Los Vascos but retained ownership of the main house and part of the estate, preserving privileged hectares planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenère, Syrah, and some Petit Verdot.
A new wine project emerged under the name of ENCIERRA. The family’s vision for this new project became a reality when they launched their first Encierra “Vineyard Reserve” harvest.
